Monkey Man

Monkey Man arrives in theaters this weekend. The movie follows A young man who struggles to make a living in an underground fight club, where he wears a gorilla mask and is repeatedly beaten by more popular fighters for money. After years of pent-up rage, he finds a way to infiltrate the city's dark elite. As his childhood trauma resurfaces, his mysteriously scarred hands trigger a violent campaign of revenge against the men who have taken everything from him.

What follows is The Good, The Bad, and NO Spoilers of Monkey Man.

The Good

Monkey Man i offers a fresh take on the classic revenge narrative. The film’s action sequences feel grounded and realistic, reminiscent of a more believable John Wick film. Dev Patel excels both in his direction and performance, skillfully bringing depth to the character. The story is well-paced, effectively balancing intense action with character development and backstory, ensuring the audience remains engaged throughout.

The Bad

The main issue I encountered with the film was that, initially, the story felt disjointed and difficult to follow. However, as the first act progressed, key elements began to align, and the narrative became much clearer and more cohesive.

My Overall Opinion

I give Monkey Man a solid 8 out of 10.
