Thunderbolts*

A different kind of hero team arrives in theaters this weekend. Marvel’s Thunderbolts* follows an unlikely team of antiheroes—Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster, and John Walker— who are caught in a deadly trap. They must undertake a perilous mission that forces them to face the darkest shadows of their pasts.

What follows is The Good, The Bad, and The Spoilers of Thunderbolts*.

The Good

Thunderbolts* presents a film centered on a group of characters who have previously appeared primarily in supporting or antagonist roles. The dynamics among them feel surprisingly relatable, often reflecting the tensions and camaraderie seen among family members or siblings forced to work together. Florence Pugh delivers one of her strongest MCU performances as Yelena, skillfully conveying the character’s grief over her sister’s loss in a way that resonates deeply with audiences. Lewis Pullman also shines as Bob, navigating the complexities of portraying multiple facets of his character with nuance and charm.

The Bad

I have one significant critique of the film: Taskmaster. Introduced as a misunderstood villain in Black Widow (2021), her brief appearance here—only to be quickly killed off—feels like a major missed opportunity. The film could have explored her potential far more, but instead her character is reduced to a fleeting plot device.

 My Overall Opinion

I give  Thunderbolts* an 8 out of 10.
