Superman (2025)

This weekend, Director James Gunn gives audiences their first superman film in his DCU. Superman (2025) follows the hero as he becomes entangled in conflicts both at home and abroad, his every move comes under scrutiny—opening the door for tech billionaire Lex Luthor to finally try and eliminate the Man of Steel once and for all. With the odds stacked against him, it may fall to fearless reporter Lois Lane and his loyal canine companion, Krypto, to save him before it’s too late.

What follows is The Good, The Bad, and The Spoilers of Superman (2025).

The Good

Superman (2025) gets so many things right. Instead of retreading the familiar origin story, the film skips ahead—through just a few lines of text—to an already established hero facing his current struggles. The result is a fresh, engaging take on the character. Every actor fully embodies their role, but it’s the design and execution of Krypto that truly stand out, showcasing real artistry. Dog owners, especially, will find themselves grinning at how perfectly his super-powered antics capture the spirit of a beloved pet. The film is packed with iconic characters that comic book fans will instantly recognize, yet what impressed me most is how, despite the large cast and fast-paced events, the story never feels scattered or overwhelming.

The Bad

The film’s most significant shortcoming lies in its handling of Lex Luthor. Despite Nicholas Hoult’s excellent performance and a compelling character foundation, the script stretches credibility by granting Luthor an almost omniscient level of control. His ability to both instruct Ultraman in precise combat maneuvers and flawlessly anticipate Superman’s every move undermines the tension of these sequences and risks reducing one of DC’s most iconic villains to a narrative convenience rather than a believable adversary.

 My Overall Opinion

I give  Superman (2025) a heroic 9 out of 10.
